The Growing Crisis of Homelessness in Haiti
Homelessness is a devastating consequence of Haiti’s struggling economy. Families in the Jérémie area are often forced to live out in the open or in makeshift shelters made of tarps and tin, barely held together. This crisis has been worsened by families fleeing gang violence in Port-au-Prince, leaving everything behind in search of safety.
Building Shelter
Homes: A Life-Changing Solution
For just $3,000 and in only one week, our ground team in Haiti can construct a 3–4 room shelter home. The result? Sighs of relief and countless smiles, especially from children experiencing their first real home.
Built Intentionally
These homes are designed to provide safety, security, and dignity, featuring:
- Concrete Floors: Durable and clean.
- Lockable Doors and Windows: For privacy and security.
- Tin-on-Wood Frame Walls and Roofs: Sturdy and weather-resistant.
Support Even After the Build
Once the home is completed, we provide the family with:
- One or two mattresses (depending on family size).
- Basic food preparation items.
- A clean-water filtration system.
- A solar-powered lantern.
Our Impact in 2025
With the support of the McGuinn Homes Foundation, we will build around 20 shelter homes in 2025. Our team has the capacity to continue building at this pace—or even more—each year, as long as we have the support of our donors.
